Dwyane Wade’s Daughter Zaya Wade Name & Gender Change Officially Legalized
It’s official!
After months of public feuding with his ex-wife, retired NBA vet Dwyane Wade has successfully gotten his transgender daughter’s name and gender legally altered.

Wade submitted documents to have the 15-year-old — formerly named Zion — legally recognized as a female with a new name back in August of 2022. It had been two years at that point since the teen – now named Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade, publicly shared about her transition journey. According to reports, an L.A. court judge recently granted the petition, allowing the celebrity kid to be acknowledged as she chooses.

There has been much discussion surrounding the decision to have Zaya’s request honored, namely by her own mother. Wade’s ex-wife and mother of his two eldest children Siohvaughn Funches has publicly stood against the athlete’s decision. Funches even went as far as to file a motion asking the courts to dismiss the petition altogether.
The co-parents have exchanged lengthy statements about the situation, with Funches making damaging accusations against Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union, accusing the couple of pushing Zaya for financial benefits.

However, it seems like the courts decided with Wade in the end.
