Update #2: (Jul. 7, 2023): Looks like the drama between Victor Wembanyama and Britney Spears is over…at least legally speaking.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept., the seemingly quick investigation into the singer’s claims wrapped this morning (Jul. 7), and “no charges will be filed.”

Update #1: (Jul. 7, 2023): As previously reported, a slapping incident recently occurred between Britney Spears and San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama’s protection team. Initial reports claimed that the pop star — who is a reported fan of the basketball player — spotted him out at a restaurant and approached him to ask for a photo. After tapping him on the shoulder to get his attention, things seemingly went south and a physical altercation occurred.

Both celebrities involved have since shared their story of what happened. According to Spears, the “traumatic” experience took place after she “simply tapped him on the shoulder” to “congratulate him on his success.” That’s when she was “back-handed” in her face by a member of Wembanyama’s security detail. Spears noted that Wembanyama smiled and laughed at her after she was hit. She also said,

“I get swarmed by people all the time. In fact, that night. I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans. My security team didn’t hit any of them.”

However, according to the No. 1 overall 2023 NBA draft pick, Spears’ version of events isn’t 100% true. He shared with reporters that he was surrounded by a lot of people while walking down the hall in the restaurant and someone “grabbed” him “from behind.” He continued, alluding that he couldn’t have laughed at Spears because he didn’t even look back to see what went down.

“I just know the security pushed her away. I don’t know with how much force, but security pushed her away. I didn’t stop to look so I could walk in and enjoy the nice dinner.”

He added,

“I didn’t know for a couple hours, but when I came back to the hotel … I didn’t forget about it, but I thought it was no big deal, and then the security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears. At first, I was like, ‘You’re joking.’ But yeah, turns out it was Britney Spears. I never saw her face. I just kept walking straight.”

Original story: (Jul. 6, 2023): Well, it looks like Britney Spears may have not been “slapped out” by San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama’s protection team after all.

Reports recently surfaced that Britney Spears was physically assaulted by a member of the professional athlete’s security staff. However, newly released surveillance footage from the alleged smackdown by security guard Damian Smith has (reportedly) shown that he never touched her face.

The exchange kicked off on Wednesday night (Jul. 5) at CATCH, a restaurant inside the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Around 8:30 p.m., Spears and her husband, Sam Asghari, decided to dine out with others. Upon walking into the establishment, she spotted 19-year-old Victor Wembanyama.

A said fan of Victor Wembanyama, the “Oops!…I Did It Again” icon approached the NBA phenomenon and tapped him to ask for a photo, which is when things went south.

Legal documents filed by Spears’ team claim that Damian Smith, Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs, then supposedly “backhanded” Spears and knocked her glasses off.

Following the incident, Smith (allegedly) apologized and claimed that his unfamiliarity with Spears caused him to react that way… to protect his client.

However, a second version of events has surfaced. According to conflicting reports, a video of the incident displayed Damian Smith simply pushing Britney Spears’ hand away from the NBA player, which prompted a reflex on herself.

A criminal investigation is currently underway. No public statements from Spears, Sam Asghari, or Victor Wembanyama as of yet.

At this time, details on what (exactly) happened are limited–although witnesses did recall seeing things get “physical” between the parties.
