‘RHOP’ Alum Monique Samuels Breaks Silence After Filing For Divorce From Chris Samuels Following 11 Years Of Marriage: ‘We Have Grown So Far Apart’

Monique Samuels is finally speaking out since filing for divorce from her husband Chris Samuels.

On Thursday (July 6) the ‘Real Housewives Of Potomac‘ alum went live and confirmed that she and Chris are indeed going their separate ways after 11 years of marriage.

During her live, Monique shared the reasons why their relationship came to an end. She revealed that she and Chris had grown apart, describing their marriage as a “battlefield.”

Monique admitted that the process of getting a divorce feels like a “death.”

“The process is very stressful. It’s like going through a death. Chris and I have been together for 17 years, married for 11 years.”

As previously reported, in October 2022, rumors first surfaced that the pair were calling it quits. While Monique Samuels, 39, previously admitted that her marriage with her husband was “struggling in some areas,” she denied the rumors and said that they were NOT getting a divorce.

During her latest chat with her followers, Monique doubled down and admitted that they were indeed going through a rough patch last year but were still fighting for their marriage.

“Last year was very rough. When we were going through our motions and we were trying to figure things out, the goal was not to get divorced…Chris and I were trying every which way to figure out how do we get that connection back how do we bring it back together…We weren’t seeking a divorce.”

The ‘Love & Marriage DC‘ star went on to discuss her children and how important it is for her and Chris to set a good example for them.

“We have three children who are watching us. Our actions and how we interact with each other. How we run our households. That is literally an example for our children of how they’re going to live their life. I don’t want our children to ever be in a relationship where they feel like they’re not being heard. Whether that’s on my side or Chris’s side.”

She continued,

“Talking at each other, the marriage becomes like a battlefield. We have three little people that are literally looking at us and they’re taking notes and they’re like, ‘okay this is what’s normal,’ and it’s not normal.”

While fans were crushed by the news of their split, Monique told her followers to not be “sorry.”

“You guys don’t have to be sorry. It’s just a part of life unfortunately. Sometimes it happens, some people stay married forever, some people don’t. My parents were married for 23 years and got divorced. I know couples that have been married for 60 years and they’re miserable and they literally let their whole life fade away. It’s really what you make it.”

She continued,

“If you get to a point where you’re like, ‘you know what, we have grown so far apart that it may be best that we focus on ourselves individually and then focus on the three important people in our lives,’ which is our children, and that’s what we decided to do. “

As previously reported, on June 20, The Montgomery County Family Court confirmed that Monique Samuels filed to legally end her marriage. Although the reality star submitted a petition to seal the documents, records show that she filed a complaint for absolute divorce on April 14 and then later filed an amended complaint for absolute divorce on June 15.

Monique and Chris married in 2012 and share three children together, sons Christopher, 9, and Chase, 3, and daughter Milani, 7.
