Nicki Minaj’s Fans Call Out Netflix For Seemingly Excluding Rapper From Doc About Women In Hip-Hop: ‘They’re Missing The Key Ingredient’
Nicki Minaj’s fans are seeking answers over their fav seemingly being left out of an upcoming Netflix docuseries surrounding impactful women in hip-hop.
On Tuesday (Jul. 25) Netflix released the official trailer for the doc “Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop” in honor of the genre’s 50th anniversary. The four-episode series will reportedly highlight the role women in the hip-hop community have played within the music scene and pop culture.
The trailer features various female rappers throughout the history of hip-hop, showcasing their rise to stardom.

The limited doc series has commentary from iconic women who have contributed to the culture and the genre’s history, such as Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shanté, MC Lyte, YoYo, and Remy Ma. Current rising stars on the hip-hop scene also appear in the project, including Ice Spice, Chika, Latto, Coi Leray, and Saweetie. However, it didn’t take long for fans to notice the preview didn’t include rapper Nicki Minaj, who has been an influential figure in hip-hop music since the early 2000s.

In addition to Nicki’s missing appearance, fellow rapper Missy Elliott and several other notable female rap artists have seemingly been left out of the doc as well. As of now, it’s unclear why Missy Elliott allegedly passed up on the docuseries. However, it’s speculated that Nicki was left out of the project because she didn’t clear the licensing needed for her work to be featured.
