Young Thug’s Attorney’s Express Concern Rapper Will Not Have A Fair Trial Due To Heavy Police Presence At Court Hearings + DA Fani Willis Says Excess Security Is Necessary Because Of YSL Members Behavior, Allegedly Shanking & Exchanging Illegal Drugs, Behind Bars
Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis is not letting up during the ongoing YSL RICO trial.
The government professional explained recently that the behaviors of several incarcerated YSL members may have a detrimental effect on Young Thug’s freedom, not the police.
According to the report from All Hip Hop, Fani Willis shared the message in response to Young Thug’s attorney’s request for a private hearing regarding their concerns about an unfair trial. Reportedly, lawyers wanted to submit evidence as to why they believe the heavy police presence at their client’s court sessions could cast him in a negative light for jurors. They reportedly claim that the overwhelming “fortress-like atmosphere”, which includes police in heavy tactical gear armed with riffles, makes the rapper – real name Jeffrey Williams, 31, already seem dangerous and guilty. Furthermore, they add that the musicians’ family and supporters being forced into a separate viewing areas may have an adverse effect on the jury’s perception of him as well.
However, Willis reportedly listed several instances that support the sheriff’s decision to go full throttle with police presence. Reportedly, the DA referred to in court and in jail behavior that Young Thug and his 8 other co-defendants have partaken in that justifies the need for extra security. Her points reportedly referenced one time the “Bestfriend” artist was handed a Percocet pill in open court, several YSL defendants being found with shanks and other illegal items in their cells, as well as threats and attacks instigated by the alleged gang members. Though for his part Thug’s name is listed only once in Willis‘ statement, it seems the totality of all his co-defendants actions could prove to fatal to his court case. A full list of offenses committed by the group since the trial began January 4th can be found below.
As we’ve been covering, Young Thug and his YSL group are charged on several counts of violating the RICO act, and stand accused of carrying out a number of gang related crimes such as aggravated assault, robbery, racketeering, and murder. The initial indictment saw the arrests of around 26 individuals, including Thug’s fellow Atlanta rapper Gunna. However, the “Pushin P” artist, real name Sergio Kitchens, 30, was released late last year after entering a guilty plea.
Despite several denied attempts at bond, Young Thug remains behind bars as the trial continues.
