Issa Rae’s Fans Come To Her Defense After Interviewer Botches Entertainer’s Name
Issa Rae’s supporters have her back, no matter what!
Over the years, Issa Rae has built a strong following and brand. Many may know the actress from her hit HBO series “Insecure” or the number of film credits under her belt such as “Barbie,” “The Photograph,” and “Little.”
On top of that, Issa’s also a successful businesswoman, with “Raedio” record label, “Hoorae Media” production company, and “Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen” all being a part of her portfolio.

Despite Issa frequently making headlines for her accomplishments, it seems that some are still unaware of how to pronounce her name. Over the weekend, the 38-year-old entertainer appeared at CultureCon and participated in a live interview moderated by Glenda McNeal, an executive for American Express. Toward the start of their chat, McNeal rubbed audience members the wrong way by mispronouncing Issa’s name as “Ih-suh.”

Immediately, the crowd interjected, letting the executive know that “The Lovebirds” star’s name is pronounced as “Ee-suh.” As Issa chuckled and looked down at her lap, McNeal defended herself and said,
“I’m part of the community, honey, it’s okay. And It’s okay to be vulnerable and don’t get it right all the time. That’s my life. Embrace it, girl. Embrace it.”
The damage was unfortunately already done for the CultureCon attendees. One person yelled after McNeal claimed to be a part of the community,
“And you didn’t say her name right.”
However, Issa seemed to be a good sport and clapped for McNeal as she pivoted from the slip-up.
