Jeezy Reveals He Unknowingly Struggled w/ Depression For 8 Years: ‘That’s What Street Life Does To You’
Jeezy is opening up about the struggles he faced with his mental health over the years.
In a recent interview with Tamron Hall, rapper Jeezy talked about his new memoir “Adversity for Sale: Ya Gotta Believe” and the events that made him realize he had been struggling with depression for eight years. The 46-year-old said that his depression came from selling drugs growing up. He also faced trauma early on after witnessing his friends abusing drugs and being murdered.

According to Jeezy, real name Jay Jenkins, he took the opportunity to change his mindset before it got too late. He said,
Jeezy continued,
“I didn’t understand trauma and all these different things so when I started to get the words for it, I started to understand and grab tools, I started to become better. I started my journey and that’s why I’m expressing it and putting it in the book because I didn’t know I was depressed for like eight years of my life straight.”
When Tamron Hall asked the “All There” rapper what he was feeling throughout the duration of the eight years, he explained,
“You wake up and you just want to go back to sleep forever, you know? And I was leaning into my vices. And that’s what street life does to you. You know what I’m saying? When you lose 200, 300, 400 people like gone forever, you just, you get numb. And I wasn’t able to get in touch with my emotions and I was wondering why.”
He added,
“Thank God for my kids but there was a time I was just cold. That’s when I was Young Jeezy.”
As you may know, Jeezy is currently in the midst of a divorce from his wife of over two years, media personality Jeannie Mai. Reports revealed last month that Jeezy submitted legal documents to the court to officially end his marriage to Jeannie Mai, 44.

A source close to the former couple shared,
“They had different views, and each felt like their needs weren’t being completely met.”
According to reports, Jeezy said in his divorce petition that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and “there is no hope for reconciliation.”
Jeannie Mai and Jeezy started dating publicly in 2019 and married in 2021.
