Daddy Yankee Says Goodbye To Reggaeton To Devote Life To His Christian Faith: ‘I’m Not Ashamed To Tell The Whole World That Jesus Lives In Me & That I Will Live For Him’
Daddy Yankee has retired from reggaeton.
Concertgoers who attended the rapper’s show over the weekend for the end of his farewell tour were the first to get insight into why Daddy Yankee has decided to step away from the music scene. While on stage in his homeland of Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee, born Ramón Rodríguez, became emotional as he talked about his faith and no longer being afraid to share his religious beliefs.
Reportedly, in Spanish, he told the packed venue,
“My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share it with you because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose.”

Daddy Yankee
Daddy Yankee is known by many as the “King of Reggaeton.” The 46-year-old has been in the public eye since 1994, however, it was his 2004 hit “Gasolina” that helped catapult his career and the reggaeton genre to the forefront. Since then, Daddy Yankee has gone on to achieve many great things, including earning over a reported 158 awards from 530 nominations and selling around 30 million records!
In March of 2022, Daddy Yankee released his seventh and final studio album “Legendaddy,” and revealed he would be done with music following the last date of his farewell tour, “La Meta (The Goal) – which kicked off as the “La Última Vuelta World Tour” (“The Last Lap Tour”) last summer.
Daddy Yankee continued his final performance speech and let his fans know that despite his successful career, he’s felt unfulfilled for years, but, “those days are over” because “someone was able to fill that emptiness.”
He then expressed,
“That is why tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him.”
After sharing with attendees that he will now go by his legal name, the entertainer added,
“All the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me — is now for his kingdom. … To all the people who followed me, follow Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life.”
