Killer Mike Won’t Be Charged After Being Arrested At Grammys, Agreed To Do Community Service
Update (June 27, 2024): Killer Mike won’t be facing charges after he was escorted out of the Grammy Awards in handcuffs in February.
L.A. City Attorney’s Office prosecutors said, according to TMZ, that they will not be officially charging the rapper, who won three Grammys at Crypt.com Arena that evening. Still, he has signed on to complete community service with an organization that he selects.
He also has to steer clear of any legal woes for a year, or the case could be reopened.
He was reportedly arrested after a confrontation with a security guard, and booked for misdemeanor battery.
Original Story (Feb. 5, 2024): Killer Mike had a time at the 2024 Grammys, and unfortunately… it wasn’t all good.
As you may know, on Sunday (Feb. 4), controversial rapper Killer Mike stole the show when he took home three awards from the elite ceremony.
Killer Mike won ‘Best Rap Album’ for his 2023 project ‘Michael’ and ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’ for “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS,” which featured fellow artists Future, Andre 3000, and Eryn Allen Kane.
In one of his acceptance speeches, ahead of the prime-time broadcast, he said,
“I’m a Black man in America. As a kid, I had a dream to become a part of music, and that nine-year-old is excited to dance inside of me right now.”
However, the natural high from his triple successes was (seemingly) short-lived. Following his wins, the 48-year-old traded the trophies for handcuffs as he was (shockingly) seen being escorted out of the event not too long after.
When asked about the issue on the ‘Big Tigger Morning Show’ this morning (Feb. 5), the Atlanta rhymer vaguely told the host(s),
“Ain’t nothing had happened was… I won them Grammys, we [slid], we partied all night.”
He went on:
“Ain’t nothing had happened, man. But we winners, that’s it.”

After bragging about his grand getup for the Grammys and chalking it up as a “speed bump,” Mike concluded in response to being “carried out” of the event,
“I wasn’t carried out of nowhere… I wasn’t carried [out of nowhere]. We not even gon’ allow you to ask that question. We gon’ get back to the real question. How did he do it? Three Grammys, twenty years in the game, forty-eight years old, beat out everybody in the thang! He beat the best of the best. So, all you can say is he’s one of the best.”
The talked-about footage hit the internet through a reporter who wrote on X:
“Breaking: Rapper Killer Mike has been taken away in handcuffs in Crypto.com arena after winning 3 #Grammys during telecast.”
In the video, you can hear a bystander yelling,
“Mike, are you serious?”
To which he appears to have responded:
“Yeah! I’m serious.”

According to authorities, the arrest was due to a physical altercation that took place not too far from where the Grammys happened, which was at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
They said in a social media post:
“On Sunday February 4th just after 4pm a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court. The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division.”
It was later announced that Mike had been booked for misdemeanor battery “on a citizen’s arrest” and let out of police custody. Citing the lyricist’s government name, officials added,
“The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released.”
While sources claimed that the situation was “a big nothing” and unrelated to any incidents during the ceremony, the Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. was on the scene.
Additionally, other reports revealed that Mike (allegedly) “knocked down” one of the Grammys’ security guards, indicating that may (or may not) have been the main reason for his sudden legal run-in.
No one knows (exactly) what type of drama ensued to result in the cops’ involvement.
Mike is set to head to court on Feb. 29.
No further details are available at this time.
