Damian Lillard Says ‘It’s Definitely Lonely’ As He Reflects On Life Since Ending Things w/ His Estranged Wife Kay’La Lillard & Being Traded To Milwaukee: ‘That’s What Comes With Making A Big Boy Decision’
Life comes with a lot of changes.
In October 2023, Damian Lillard shockingly filed for divorce from his high school sweetheart Kay’La Lillard, just one week after he was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks. The former couple married in 2021 and share three children – son Damian Jr., 5, and 2-year-old twins Kalii, a boy, and Kali, a girl. During a recent interview, Damian Lillard spoke about the change in his family dynamics and life since moving to Milwaukee for his new team. He shared,
“It’s definitely lonely because I’m such a family guy. My life is my family. After games, I would come out and my whole family would be back there. My kids coming out of the playroom. My mom, my brother, my cousins lived there, you know what I mean?”
He continued,
“My best friends live in Portland. So I would come out, we would go to dinner. They might come to my house. After practice, I might go to my mom’s house and just chill. That’s how my life was. So, I mean, I’m fine because I’m grown. But it’s definitely lonely. I’m filled up by those people.”
As previously reported, after the NBA player filed for divorce, his ex, Kay’La Lillard, petitioned the court for sole physical custody of their children. She claimed in her filing,
“It is in the children’s best interests that I be awarded sole custody. I am best positioned to address the ongoing needs of our minor children. I have been responsible for the children’s care since their birth.”
She added that her ex hubby has “never been the sole parent responsible for the care of all three of our children, for any hours-long period of time without the help of nannies, assistants, and/or family members.”
Damian Lillard continued his interview, explaining that outside of his job as a professional athlete, he “[doesn’t] have much of a life” in his new city. He elaborated,
“[I] go to practice, go home, watch boxing, play video games. Man, I type in [boxing website] FightHype on YouTube 100 times and be praying for something new to be on there.”
And continued,
“Seriously, I don’t have much of a life. But that’s what comes with making a big boy decision. You got to be down for that and figure it out.”
