Beyoncé is returning to the big screen, and this time, she’s bringing her daughter and Grammy winner Blue Ivy Carter, along for the ride. The superstar duo is set to star in Disney’s highly anticipated film, Mufasa: The Lion King.
The news of Blue Ivy’s acting debut alongside her mother was revealed in the first trailer for the film. In this prequel to the beloved animated classic, Beyoncé will reprise her role as Nala, the iconic lioness, while Blue Ivy will take on the role of Nala’s daughter, Kiara.
The new film delves into Simba’s reign as king of the Pride Lands, highlighting his determination for his cub to carry on his legacy. Additionally, it explores the origins of his late father, Mufasa, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the iconic character.
As for Blue Ivy, this marks her first official acting role, stepping into a character other than herself. Previously, she captivated audiences in the critically acclaimed Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, and made musical appearances in Disney’s Black Is King. She was featured on Beyoncé’s Lion King: The Gift and won a Grammy for Best Music Video thanks to the hit “Brown Skin Girl” in 2021. A then 9-year-old Blue Ivy was one of the youngest people to ever win a Grammy.
Alongside Beyoncé and Blue Ivy, Mufasa: The Lion King features a star-studded cast, which includes Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, and Thandiwe Newton.
The film is set to be released on Dec. 20, 2024.
