KRS-One Calls Out Hip Hop For Not Giving Fatman Scoop His Flowers Before He Died: ‘Hip Hop Gotta Stop Doing That’
KRS-One is sounding off on the hip-hop genre for only honoring legends after they pass away.
In an interview with Houston’s 97.9 The Box this week, KRS-One said that Fatman Scoop should’ve been given his flowers long before he died.
The famed DJ sadly passed away over the weekend after collapsing on stage during a concert.
KRS-One said,
“It’s a shame that now that he’s passed we’re talking about him in this way. Hip hop gotta stop doing that. Only when dudes pass, that’s when they get honored. We should’ve been looking at Fatman Scoop when his career was blowing up.”
“He never got played on no stations. Only DJs that knew would throw his music on.”

When asked if he thinks other genres treat their icons the same way, KRS-One said,
“Other genres suck. We don’t get a f*ck about them. hip hop runs sh*t. F*ck all these other genres, really. Hip hop runs this whole f*ck*in music industry. If we don’t get it right with hip hop, I’m sorry reggae, I’m sorry jazz, I’m sorry gospel, I’m sorry rock, we’re not gonna get it together with nothing.”
He later added,
“These other genres putting hip hop down but we rising up. These other genres, they can do that to their artists if they like. We don’t give a f*ck about them. We can’t do that to our artists. Fatman Scoop, that’s the way a hip hop DJ sounds. So dudes on the radio talking about they’re number 1 for hip hop, you should take a listen to the real dude who was number 1 for hip hop.”
