‘Saturday Night Live’ Alum Sasheer Zamata Comes Out As A ‘Late-In-Life Lesbian’
Better late than never.
During a newly published interview with Them, Saturday Night Live alum Sasheer Zamata candidly discussed her sexuality and revealed that she considers herself to be “one of those late-in-life lesbians.” Sharing how her acting roles helped her realize her truth, Sasheer Zamata, 38, said,
“I kept getting cast as queer women. I played a lesbian on Home Economics. I played a lesbian on Woke. I played a lesbian on Tuca & Bertie. A lesbian on Last O.G. I kept getting these roles. And this is before I myself was figuring out my identity. I was like, ’Whoa, what are these casting directors seeing that I’m not seeing?’”
Continuing, Sasheer Zamata explained why she decided to share her sexuality with the public,
“No one asks straight people about their journey of discovery, but I guess it felt like if I didn’t say anything, I’d be ignoring a part of me, and that doesn’t feel very good. But yeah, I’ve definitely had thoughts of, not necessarily keeping it a secret, but [that] there’s no need to say anything about it.”

Zamata isn’t the only celeb to come out later in life. As previously reported, last August Wayne Brady, 52, came out as pansexual. At the time, he revealed,
“I came to pansexual because — and I know that I’m completely messing up the dictionary meaning — but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place. I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically, but I could be attracted to the person that is there.”
