Don Cheadle Reveals Kendrick Lamar Passed On ‘Miles Ahead’ Movie Role
Don Cheadle recently opened up about his experience working with Kendrick Lamar on the music video for DNA during an appearance on Way Up with Angela Yee.
Don Cheadle praised Kendrick Lamar’s commitment during the shoot, saying, “When we shot that video, Kendrick Lamar was so like with it,” highlighting how dedicated he was to staying in character throughout.
Interestingly, before collaborating on the DNA music video, Don Cheadle had already considered casting Kendrick as Junior in his 2015 film Miles Ahead, a biographical movie about jazz legend Miles Davis.
“We talked about it for a long time,” he recalled, explaining that Kendrick ultimately decided not to take on the role because he felt he wasn’t ready for that obligation and was already involved in another project.
Cheadle acknowledged Kendrick’s decision, noting that it was the right choice since the project he was already working on turned out to be To Pimp a Butterfly. This album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2016.
