Skip Bayless Admits He Told His Wife She’d Be Second To His Career On Their First Date
Skip Bayless is prioritizing his passion for sports commentary, even in his marriage.
On the Pat Bev Podcast, Skip Bayless revealed that during his first date with now-wife Ernestine, he made it clear:
“I said if this relationship ever lifts off and goes any place, you’re just going to have to know from day one that you’ll be second in my life to my work.”

He added:
“Because it’s not just my work to me — it’s my passion. It’s my life. It’s my essence. It’s my reason for being.”
Skip Bayless also explained his decision not to have kids, emphasizing the commitment required, saying:
“If you have a kid, you have to be there for your kid — but I chose to dedicate my life to this. As silly as it might seem to some people, I am all about this to a fault and I barely have enough time for my wife.”
Welp, his career dedication has certainly paid off. Bayless is best known for his work as a commentator on First Take, which he left in 2016, and for leading Undisputed on Fox Sports 1 for eight years until his departure in August. In his announcement, he expressed plans to pursue new opportunities.
