Holly Robinson Peete At the Center Of Age Discrimination Lawsuit: She’s Too Expensive & Is Getting Old
A new lawsuit accuses Hallmark of no longer wanting to cast “old people,” including Holly Robinson Peete.
According to Variety, in the suit filed by Penny Perry, a 79-year-old casting director, who alleges she was fired in April after nine years with the company, called out the Hallmark Channel for swiftly replacing actresses with younger talent.
Perry claims that executive VP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly told her staff she did not want to cast “old people,” saying they did not fit with her image for the channel, the outlet reports.
In the suit, Hamilton Daly is quoted as singling out Holly Robinson Peete, who is 60.
“No one wants her because she’s too expensive and getting too old. She can’t play leading roles anymore,” the suit alleges.
Another actress who was targeted is Lacey Chabert, who is 42.
“Lacey’s getting older, and we have to find someone like her to replace her as she gets older,” Hamilton Daly allegedly said.
No additional details about the lawsuit have been released.
