Confused about why Trump can vote? We were too. While Florida makes it tough for people with felony convictions to vote, former President Donald Trump will have no problem casting his ballot today.
After being convicted in New York of falsifying business records, Trump is allowed to vote thanks to a 2021 New York law. This law permits individuals with felony convictions to vote as long as they aren’t currently incarcerated.

In contrast, Florida’s laws are stricter for its residents. A 2018 initiative aimed to restore voting rights, but this was followed by a requirement imposed by the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature that individuals must pay all fines and fees before regaining their voting rights. This added complication creates significant barriers for many seeking to vote.
