Trump Orders For Federal Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Staff Be Placed On Paid Leave, Will Eventually Lay Them Off
Donald Trump had issued an order for federal diversity, equity and inclusion. (DEI) staff to be placed on paid leave, ending affirmative action in federal contracting, according to the Associated Press.
Agencies were ordered to put DEI employees on paid leave and remove all DEI websites by 5PM Wednesday (January 22). The federal DEI staff will ultimately be laid off.
Federal government workers are also ordered to tell Donald Trump’s Office of Personnel Management about any agency they believe a DEI-program is still in operation, just under a different name.
They have 10 days to report or they will face “adverse consequences.”
The decision came one day after Donald Trump signed an executive order to end federal government’s DEI programs like funding for minority homeowners and farmers. He slammed the programs as “discrimination” and said he wants to prioritize “merit-based” hiring.
The new order reverses an order that was first signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and was used in Joe Biden’s administration.
