Amandla Stenberg Responds To Claims She Takes Roles From Dark-Skinned Actresses Amid ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ Casting Backlash
Actress Amandla Stenberg is shutting down allegations that she’s “stealing” roles from her darker-skinned colleagues.
In a lengthy TikTok video, the “Hunger Games” star addressed the backlash she continues to face, making it clear that she understands how colorism operates in Hollywood and tries to be mindful of it when auditioning for roles.
Stenberg revealed that she’s facing this criticism yet again after being cast in the upcoming fantasy film “Children of Blood and Bone,” where she stars alongside “Snowfall” actor Damson Idris and “The Woman King” actress Thuso Mbedu.

The 26-year-old explained that she did her research before accepting the role. She pointed out that her character, Amari, is described in the novel as having a complexion similar to hers. Stenberg also emphasized that “Children of Blood and Bone” author Tomi Adeyemi supported her casting.
Furthermore, she highlighted that the story itself serves as an allegory for colorism and oppression, and her character’s lighter skin tone plays a role in that narrative.
