Gilbert Arenas & Laura Govan’s Son Alijah Out Of Medically Induced Coma & ‘Showing Significant Signs Of Progress’ After Serious Car Crash

The family of high school basketball star Alijah Arenas has shared a hopeful update on his condition following the serious car accident that left him hospitalized.

A representative for the family confirmed that Alijah is now out of a medically induced coma and is “showing significant signs of progress.” The statement continued:

“Alijah opened his eyes and was able to write on a piece of paper that he remembered the smoke and asked, ‘Did anyone get hurt?’”

Though Alijah remains intubated, his ability to wake up and communicate is being viewed as a major step in what doctors hope will be a full recovery. His mother, Laura Govan, father, Gilbert Arenas, and siblings remain by his side during this time.

The family also extended their gratitude to the public for the overwhelming love and support, as well as to the heroic driver who helped pull Alijah from his burning Cybertruck after it crashed into a tree and fire hydrant around 3 a.m. on April 24.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Our prayers are with Alijah and his family during this time.
