UPDATE: Former NFL Player Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones Pleads Not Guilty To A$$aulting A Police Officer, Lawyer Says He Simply Exercised His Right To Ask Why He Was Being Detained
Adam “Pacman” Jones is denying the allegations after his recent arrest in Covington, Kentucky.
On Wednesday (June 11), Jones pleaded not guilty to charges including alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and a$$ault of a police officer following his arrest on Saturday (June 8). He posted a $10,000 bond and was released later that day.
Jones’ attorney, Pete Schaefer, called the arrest an example of “overzealous policing” and argued that his client did nothing wrong beyond asking why he was being detained. Schaefer said, “Initially, officers claimed he was being arrested for a$$ault and then shifted to public intoxication, which in itself is not a crime in many jurisdictions unless it leads to dangerous behavior, and finally settled on disorderly conduct, simply for asking why he was being detained.”
Schaefer added, “Adam, like every American, is innocent until proven guilty. Yet once again, his past is being weaponized against him in the court of public opinion, while the officers involved face no scrutiny for their conduct. Adam deserves fairness, not another headline designed to paint him as a villain for clicks.”
Jones has faced multiple public intoxication charges over the past few years.
