Magic Johnson Speaks On Reported Lakers Sale, Says ‘Fans Should Be Ecstatic’ Over Alleged $10 Billion Deal

Magic Johnson Speaks On Reported Lakers Sale, Says ‘Fans Should Be Ecstatic’ Over Alleged $10 Billion Deal
Magic Johnson is celebrating a massive Lakers milestone after the franchise’s $10 billion sale to Mark Walter, CEO of TWG Global.
In a heartfelt message, Johnson revealed what he told longtime friend and Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss.
“I just talked to my sister Jeanie Buss to tell her congratulations, and that I’m so happy for her and family,” Johnson wrote. “I told her that her dad Dr. Buss would be very proud of her for getting $10B for the Lakers, the largest sports franchise sale in history!”
The deal marks the end of the Buss family’s majority ownership, which began in 1979—the same year Magic was drafted. Though Jeanie remains Governor, the move signals a new era for the iconic team.
“Laker fans should be ecstatic,” Johnson added. “Mark \[Walter] is driven by winning, excellence, and doing everything the right way…This makes all the sense in the world. I am so, so, SO happy and excited for @Lakers fans all over the world!!”
