NBA Player Malik Beasley Under Federal Investigation For Gambling: Report
Malik Beasley is the subject of a federal gambling investigation, multiple sources told ESPN on Sunday (June 29).
The claims date back to the 2023-2024 season. At the time, Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged 11.3 points in 79 games. He started in 77 games that season, which is the highest of his career.
One gambling insider told ESPN that when the Bucks played the Portland Trailblazers on Jan. 31, 2024, the chances that Beasley would record less than 2.5 rebounds dipped “significantly” from +120 to -250. In that game, Beasley completed six rebounds, upsetting the unusual bets.
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, responded to the allegations and told the outlet:
“An investigation is not a charge. Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”
He also told ABC News that he’s been in contact with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York, which seems to be overseeing the probe.
The Pistons, which Beasley played for last season, said they know about the allegations and “are cooperating with the federal prosecutors’ investigation.”
Beasley was negotiating a $42 million, three-year contract with the Pistons; however, that is said to be on pause right now.
