Sterling K. Brown Says He Intentionally Tries To Cast Dark-Skinned Black Women To Challenge Beauty Standards: ‘I Want Them To Know That SKB Sees Them’
Sterling K. Brown is intentional about who he loves, especially on screen.
The Emmy-winning actor recently opened up about his commitment to casting dark-skinned Black women as his love interests in film and television, highlighting the importance of representation.
Brown explained that his choices are very much conscious, rooted in a desire to challenge Eurocentric beauty standards.
“Light skin oftentimes is seen as more beautiful than dark skin,” he said in a recent interview, adding that he wants to showcase the full range of Black beauty.
“I understand the power of representation and how often Black women feel unseen by Black men,” Brown continued. “I want them to know that SKB sees them.”
Through his casting decisions and on-screen pairings, Brown hopes to affirm that dark-skinned Black women are just as beautiful, worthy, and loved.
Should more dark-skinned women be cast as love interests?
