Erica Mena Opens Up About Controversial Comments Toward Spice That Got Her Fired From ‘Love & Hip Hop’: ‘It Wasn’t Skin-Related At All’
Erica Mena opened up about her most talked-about moments on Love & Hip Hop during an appearance on NeNe Leakes’ podcast.
When asked about her spat with Spice, where she called her a monkey and was later fired, Erica said, “It wasn’t said because I was racist. I said it because it was more of an appearance thing. It wasn’t skin-related at all.”

She added, “People have selective outrage because it’s the woman [Spice] you guys are going so hard for, but she literally had a whole media campaign about becoming a white woman.”
Erica was referring to Spice’s promotion of her mixtape Black Hypocrisy, which addresses colorism and featured photos of Spice with noticeably lighter skin.
