UAB Football Player Charged w/ Attempted M#rder, Allegedly St@bbed Teammates Before Game
College game day took a disturbing turn over the weekend.
JaSire Peterson and Joshua Underwood, players on the #UAB Blazers football team, have been released from the hospital and are now recovering at home after being st@bbed by a teammate just hours before their Saturday game (Nov. 22). The suspected attacker, identified as Daniel Mincey, is facing charges of attempted m*rder and first-degree a$$ault. The incident reportedly took place around 10 a.m. inside the on-campus football operations building. Mincey is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail in #Birmingham on a $90,000 bond. A motive has not been made public, and the university has already removed his name from the online roster.
During a press conference on Monday (Nov. 24), Interim head coach Alex Mortensen said the injured players are “really grateful” for the quick response from first responders and medical professionals, and asked the public to “respect their privacy as they deal with what happened.” Despite the shocking incident, UAB still went forward with its scheduled game against the South Florida Bulls, a decision athletics director Mark Ingram said was made “only after we knew the injured players were stable and after a coach was able to have a very honest and caring conversation with our team.”
