Mariah Carey Scores Another Victory In “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Legal Battle, Men Who Claimed She Copied Their Song Ordered To Pay Over $90K In Sanctions
#MariahCarey secured a major legal victory involving her holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” after a copyright lawsuit filed against her was dismissed and the plaintiffs were slammed with sanctions.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the judge found the lawsuit “lacked merit” and ordered the parties who brought the case to pay Mariah $92,303.20 in sanctions, with additional costs bringing the total close to $110,000.
The lawsuit, originally filed in November 2023 by songwriters Andy Stone and Troy Powers, claimed Mariah’s 1994 classic copied their 1989 song of the same name and sought at least $20 million in damages. However, the judge tossed the case earlier this year.
