Floyd Mayweather Books New Exhibition Fight Before Sept. 19 Pacquiao Rematch
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is stepping back into the spotlight — first in Greece, then in Las Vegas.
The 49-year-old boxing legend plans to stage an exhibition bout against 45-year-old kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Athens this June. The exhibition comes ahead of Mayweather’s scheduled rematch later this year with longtime rival Manny Pacquiao.
“2026 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for me,” Mayweather said. “Europe, I’m on the way to entertain.”
Mayweather retired from professional boxing after defeating Conor McGregor in 2017. However, he is set to return to licensed competition in September when he faces Pacquiao in Las Vegas — marking his fourth comeback after previously retiring in 2007, 2015 and 2017.
The rematch is scheduled for September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Their first fight, held 11 years ago, was one of the most anticipated bouts in boxing history. Though it underwhelmed some as a contest, it set records for a £53.1 million gate and 4.6 million pay-per-view sales.
As for Zambidis, he ended his kickboxing career more than a decade ago and had a one-off boxing bout in 2019. Additional details about the June exhibition — including the exact date and venue — were not specified.
