Model & “ANTM” Alum Toccara Jones Says Tyra Banks Was ‘Performative’ In Netflix Doc: ‘She
Didn’t Show Empathy
Toccara Jones wishes #TyraBanks had shown a bit more vulnerability in Netflix’s Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.
In an interview with reality executive producer Carlos King, Toccara said she felt Tyra came across as “performative” when addressing the controversies and allegations surrounding her and the modeling competition series. “I don’t think it was very genuine. I don’t think she showed vulnerability, and I don’t think she showed empathy,” Tocarra explained. The documentary highlights several alleged incidents over the show’s 24-season run, including s3xual a$$ault, mistreatment behind the scenes, and racism. #Tyra, who created, hosted, and executive-produced #ANTM, is accused of turning a blind eye while contestants were mistreated.
#Toccara, who recently said she personally has nothing against Tyra in a separate interview, added that the public understands times were different when the series premiered in 2003 and might be more forgiving if Tyra acknowledged the past openly. “We all understand the climate back then…and if she would have just said [sorry] and admitted with honesty…I don’t think they would have been nailing her to the stake like they are.”
