Spirit Airlines At Risk Of Liquidation As Fuel Costs Continue To Climb Amid Iran War
#SpiritAirlines might be shutting down soon.
According to multiple reports, rising jet fuel prices spurred by the US war with Iran could push the budget carrier into liquidation. Spirit Airlines, which reportedly operates more than 500 daily flights to over 60 destinations, may be forced to sell off its assets as soon as this week if financial pressures continue to mount. The airline has already been dealing with years of financial struggles, including a second bankruptcy filing in less than a year, and had been working to stabilize its business.
In an effort to survive, Spirit has taken several steps to cut costs and boost revenue, including downsizing its fleet, trimming routes, and trying to attract higher-paying customers with upgraded seating and bundled fares. Labor unions representing pilots and flight attendants have also made concessions to help keep the airline running. Still, rising fuel prices continue to pressure not just Spirit but the entire airline industry, with many carriers increasing fares and fees to offset the added costs.
