Master P Calls For Black Ownership After Reports LSU Was Closing African American Cultural Center

Master P is calling for more Black ownership and economic empowerment after reports sparked concern that LSU was closing its African American Cultural Center — though the university has since clarified that the center remains open.

The rapper and entrepreneur shared a video addressing the controversy, writing, “NAACP is disappointed that LSU CLOSES AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE CENTER FOR BLACK STUDENTS!” He warned that other universities could follow and argued that the Black community needs to focus on ownership. “We need more black ownership & products, to bridge the wealth gap… It starts with economic empowerment.”

However, LSU says the Clarence L. Barney Jr. African American Cultural Center has not closed. Concerns reportedly surfaced after staff positions connected to the center and other campus cultural centers were eliminated, prompting LSU’s NAACP chapter to speak out about its potential closure. LSU later clarified that the center remains open.

Master P also questioned why the controversy hadn’t received more attention and called for action instead of division. “We need real solutions and a plan of action,” he wrote, adding, “We can’t be mad at them if we don’t stick together or own anything. Let’s communicate in love and help support our students.”
