Entrepreneur Courtney Adeleye is opening up about the tense negotiations surrounding the sale of her haircare company, The Mane Choice, revealing she was prepared to walk away from the deal altogether.

During an exclusive interview with theJasmineBrand founder @itsjasminebrand , Adeleye reflected on building the company to more than $100 million in sales before entering the acquisition process. Despite the success she had already achieved, she admitted she was still learning how major business deals worked. “I was green. I had never done an acquisition before,” she explained, adding, “They do play those games. It’s called business. I just didn’t know.”

As negotiations continued and terms allegedly kept changing, Adeleye reached her limit. “I actually did back out of it at the very last minute,” she revealed. Adeleye said she had already decided that if another part of the agreement changed, she would walk away — and she followed through. “And I meant that. It wasn’t a threat.”

Her decision seemingly shifted the negotiations almost immediately. “Within 30 minutes, I got a phone call like, ‘Oh, we’re good to go. We close as is,’” Adeleye recalled, adding, “I’m like, ‘Okay,’ because I’m over it, you know?”
