[Update] Lionel Richie’s ICU Stay Now Linked To Cardiac Issues After He Struggled Through St. Louis Concert
More details are emerging about Lionel Richie’s hospitalization, with doctors now reportedly focusing on possible cardiac-related issues after the music legend experienced another health scare on tour.
According to TMZ, Richie remains in an intensive care unit in St. Louis while undergoing additional testing connected to his heart. Sources familiar with the situation say the 77-year-old singer is expected to be released Wednesday.
Richie checked himself into the hospital after performing Saturday night at The Muny. Initial reports suggested doctors were examining possible mild dehydration, but the latest update indicates cardiac concerns are now part of the evaluation.
Concertgoers said Richie appeared to struggle near the end of the show and requested a chair while performing his final song, “All Night Long.”
The hospitalization comes just months after Richie was rushed to a hospital following another onstage health issue in St. Paul, Minnesota. During that June concert, Richie told the crowd he felt “dizzy” and “strange” before ending the show early and being taken away by ambulance.
That incident forced him to postpone a Chicago performance. His next scheduled concert is September 26 in San Francisco.
Prayers to Lionel on a speedy recovery.
