Am i the only one that thinks that this girl is a beast! Katy Perry’s latest single, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this week…And guess what that makes her? Pretty effing close to Michael Jackson. She’s the 2nd artist in the 53-year history of the Hot 100 to produce five No. 1 singles off the same album. According to CNN, she’s the first woman and the only living artist to achieve the record.
Perry expressed her excitement on twitter:

The music industry machine has tons of devices at their disposal to generate numbers for certain artists. talent and “good music” unfortunately have only shown themselves to be a small part of the equation where generating airplay is concerned. Frankly, anyone with $25,000 cash can go to Radio One and have their music played in all major markets regardless of talent, or song quality. Michael generated his figures PRE-INTERNET and before Pay-For-Play became the beast it is today. Let’s not read too much into Katy’s achievement, at the same time, let’s not take anything away from this talented chanteuse.
