J.Cole, “People don’t know the difference between gossip & reality.”

North-Carolina native Jermaine Lamarr Cole famously known as J-Cole is preparing for the release of his first debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story. The 26-year-old has released three successful mixtapes thus far. In promotion of the album, J Cole had an interview with Rolling Out magazine.

He keeps it real and opens up with his first embarrassing encounter with Jay-Z. At this time, he was the stereotypical struggling artist working at a newspaper in Queens making $8 an hour part-time so he could work on music the rest of the time. One night he heard Jay-Z was going to be in town so he went to the studio to show him his CD, and in response HOV replied,
“What is this? I don’t want that. Give it to one of those other guys.”
Fortunately, he didn’t give up and continued to make music and eventually through Mark Pitts, president of Urban music for Jive Records, Jay-Z heard one of Cole’s song and set up a meeting. After three hours in the meeting and five weeks of anxious waiting J.Cole was signed to the Roc Nation family.
Also, outside the music world there has been rumors of a sex tape between him and our Caribbean RnB diva Rihanna. In response to this he says,
“Gossip is foreign to me. By nature, I don’t like to gossip. I never was on the gossip sites. Now being on the other side, it’s annoying. A lot of people don’t know the difference between gossip and reality. They may think that you have a sex tape with Rihanna, or [that] you’re having sex with Solange because of what someone made up. But I guess it’s just something that comes with territory.”
In relation to his album which is set to hit stands on Tuesday, September 27, the rapper tells his fans what to expect,
“This album speaks to the type of artist I want to be. I think the album will provide thought provoking lyrics and heartfelt stories. I want to take listeners on a ride. It shows the type of balance that I want to have as an artist. I want to be at the top of the list when it comes to rap, I want the respect of the hip-hop fans and connoisseurs. I want to be on everybody’s list.”
