Should Jay-Z’s New T-Shirt Line Profit “Occupy Wall Street” Movement?
Friday, Jay-Z will launch an Occupy Wall Street T-shirt line, called “Occupy All Streets.” The shirt, which he rocked during his recent NYC concert (photographed above) sparked enough interest for the Rocawear clothing label to create a line. So what’s the big deal? Apparently, the profits aren’t necessarily helping the Occupy Wall Street movement, which has spread across the country.
In a statement to Gawker, a Rocawear spokesperson explained:
“Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time, we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”
So, the question is —> Is Jay-Z obligated to share some of the proceeds to the “Occupy” movement? [NY Daily News]

NOPE, he sure isn’t. Would it be a sign of good faith, of course. But people take ideas and flip them for their own profit or vision, ALL the time. This really is no different. I’m not trying to sound insensitive by any means. Because the OCCUPY movement is a very important one, that I feel in time will do some good. But with that said, IMO, no he’s not obligated to do anything.
It’s just like any other time when a “cause” has been championed to address some wrong. Something that the black community or some other minority group, had been dealing with/going through since forever. And once it hits the “right community”, then it becomes a cause. Then it becomes a problem that gains national media. Something that needs to be addressed. This really is no different.
