Spike Lee Compensates Elderly Couple for Tweeting Wrong Zimmerman Address

This week, we shared that Spike Lee accidentally Retweeted the address of what he thought was George Zimmerman, the Florida man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin. What Spike actually tweeted was the address of an elderly couple in Sanford, Florida, who had to temporarily relocate to a hotel because they were living in fear. Elaine and David McClain have a son named William George Zimmerman, who lived with them in 1995 and has no relation to the neighborhood watchman who killed Trayvon Martin. Since the incident, Spike has agreed to give compensation to the couple. Elaine McClain shared that Spike apologized to them during a phone call. She said,
“He was really kind. And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip, and I just know that he really, really has been concerned.”
