Saints & Sinners Petition Cancellation of ‘The Sisterhood’ Reality Show
A few religious and spiritual folk are none too pleased with TLC’s new reality show, ‘The Sisterhood’. If you’re unfamiliar with the show (click here for the first episode), it’s cast and storyline revolves around ‘First Ladies’ and/or women who’s husband is or was involved in ministry. A person by the name of Anne Cooke has stared a petition, suggesting that the show should be canceled because it is a negative and inaccurate portrayal of Christianity. The petition reads:
The Sisterhood is being portrayed as a Christian reality show, featuring Preacher’s/Pastor’s wives from Atlanta, GA. The previews and highlights of the upcoming show is pure garbage and does not portray the reality of being a Christian or the reality of being a Preacher’s or Pastor’s wife. The airing of this show is not only offensive to the Body of Christ, but it is also degrading to Women of Color (specifically). This show mocks everything that we, as believers, stand for. It is disgusting, disgraceful, inappropriate and an inaccurate display of what we strive to accomplish as Christians. The airing of this show only adds more fuel to the ever-present distasteful stereotype that we, as Christians, fight daily to erase. We must stand together and put an end to TLC’s clear derogatory distortion of the Body of Christ and Women of God (specifically, Preacher’s and Pastor’s wives)! Please spread the word!
Meanwhile, Christina Murray, one of the cast members, has responded to criticism. In an interview with the Christian Post, she explained:
We hated the religious, dogmatic type of church and people who were very judgmental because that’s how they felt they had to be. So when we began this journey we definitely wanted to be real and authentic not only with ourselves but also with our ministry and our congregation, I believe in my faith wholeheartedly and I want to be able to live up to what God expects me to live up to. I want to be the person God is calling me to be.

I think this show is an accurate portrayl of preacher’s wives. we always want to hold the preacher’s wife to a higher standard but this show helps to portray that PW’s have the same problems, if not more, than the average wife.
I like the show. The drama is a bit much but that’s with every reality show.
I agree…I was a little skeptical as first from seeing the previews but after actually watching the first episode,it was pretty good. Now the show that they need to petition is the one that comes after “Sisterhood”, “The Best Funeral Ever”….this is “pure garbage” and just too over the top. I feel like they’re making a mockery of death and it just doesn’t seem human0like or real…just my opinion

Actually, the show is not that bad. They aren’t doing anything to “unChristian like”. No more than Eddie Long, no more than Juanita Bynum, and no more that Mary Mary.

I feel the show is accurate. It shows that christians are people, in need of help from Jesus Christ. We all have sinned and fell short.
As a preacher you are held to a higher standard. The show will help a lot of Preachers and Christians see there own faults and I pray people will change because of seeing just how we really look behind close doors. Remeber Saints Jesus see all.

I saw Sisterhood a week after it was first aired. After seeing comments, I expected to see foolishness but I actually thought it was a real portrayal of real people. I grew up and befriended people of “First Families” and know first hand that they are very human.
I looked at the show and I admit I was like ummm, ok. I don’t agree with this and I don’t agree with that. However, I like the fact that these ladies are keeping it real. They aren’t the only ones behaving in this manner, it’s just their on tv and everyone is able to see it. Yes, there is a way first ladies should carry themselves and behave, but note, every first lady not claiming salvation. Meaning they may not being living a saintified life and no first lady is perfect. Suits means nothing, if the heart is far from God. No, I’m not condoning what they do, but what I’m saying is that their keeping it real. All we can do is pray for these ladies.
WHY DOES THE CHURCH NEED TO ADAPT TO THE CONCEPT OF REALITY TELEVISION? WHAT ABOUT BEING IN THE WORLD AND NOT OF THE WORLD? WHAT ABOUT NOT BEING CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD BUT BEING TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF OUR MINDS? ……?????????

I just finish watching the show and was like ok, this is not bad at all. It does show how that preachers and first lady are human like everyone else. They have trials and tribulations like everyone else. We all have sin and been tested in one point of our life. I agree with the other reviewers, if you don’t like it and it’s to much don’t watch
I look at this show as pure entertainment!!!! Like any other reality show, it’s nothing but drama, drama, drama – with a different setting and characters. Frankly, I hope that some of their storylines are scripted (for their sakes) and that’s NOT their true beliefs, actions, and reactions to the issues presented.
I enjoy watching reality shows, but in my opinion if there is going to be a Christian reality show, at the end of it all it should make people want to know the God we serve. Im not condemning the people coz they are human but the show dont speak well of how Christians should behave. Like when pastor Murray was giving his daughters sex education with a banana, I believe that as a pastor and a father he should have used the word of God to talk about sex in more length, not buy condoms. He mite aswell take the banana to sunday school and teach the kids bout condoms and how to put it on. However this show does teach me alot about real men of God who love the Lord and people who just do it as a business. It is very evident in this show. My fellow Christians dont let this show anger you, God has it under control just keep doing what you do.

Actually it is a good show. Like many others I was surprised and found the show very real. It is certainly better than some of the trash on TV. Why people feel it’s ungodly is beyond me. It’s life. And it is what happens not only in the lives of preachers and their families but what happens in the life of everyday Christians. I bet the people that protest the most are the very ones who have even more ungodly drama going on in their lives. Stop berating the positive shows and write about the other trash you watch and let into your homes. It’s about Christian people going through struggles because we live in world where people have issues, faults and bad habits they are trying to overcome and dealing with circumstances that are sometimes beyond their control. The Christian walk/salvation is a journey, a process, and we don’t get their overnight. Let’s embrace positive things and speak against what is not. I have found that many of the issues they have dealt with on this show have given me food for thought and caused me to be more understanding of the things people go through. Keep the show coming.
