Due to some personal circumstances that have become public, after 20 years of service, Mister Cee has chosen to resign.  We feel that this is in the best interest of both HOT 97 and Cee’s personal well-being. While we do not endorse the alleged activities, he is clearly facing a personal dilemma that is for him and only him to comment on. We are saddened by his departure; his contributions here at HOT 97 were great and we know him as a friend, a caring individual and significant hip hop advocate. We wish Mr Cee the best and will always consider him a family member of HOT 97. Moments ago, he officially signed off, on the air and will finish out his last show today onSeptember 11, 2013, an already sad day for New York City.

Those familiar with the station and Cee know that for the past two years (and some change) he’s repeatedly been busted for soliciting prostitutes. The New Yorker has publicly admitted that he struggles with an addiction. Earlier this year, he recorded a radio PSA for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, explaining:

I can honestly say I have an addiction, and that’s something I’m going to have to move forward with in my life. Fellas messin’ with two and three women at a time, or even some of you women–women are just as much as cheaters out there. I mean, let’s just be honest man, everybody’s not living a righteous lifestyle out there. Even myself. Your business is your business, as it should be, it’s private and confidential. There are professionals to help you with your situation.

Today, before signing off air, he told listeners:

It’s not a joke, today is my last day on Hot 97. I’m doing what I feel is right for the betterment of the station.

And moments ago on twitter, he sent some alarming messages about his resignation, hinting at suicide:

Hopefully, this is a fake twitter account. What are your thoughts on Mister Cee’s departure? Was it necessary for him to resign?

UPDATED…here’s the alleged audio of a Drag Queen exposing Cee.

[Hot 97, Hip Hop Wired]

  • It’s a shame that he resigned. I can understand the scrutiny he must be feeling after allegedly being caught with male prostitutes in two recent incidents. What’s funny is although we know what the real deal is, people in the industry was still doing business with him so it’s not like he will be able to shake that image. I only wish him the best in life and hope he prays to the Lord for help and guidance.

    • Not that you, asked :), but I really feel bad that folk can’t be themselves and have to hide who they truly are. That most be a very sad life. He’s been hiding this and trying to keep it secret for years.

Jasmine, its one thing that he is not true to himself, but its a whole different ball game, Gay/Straight, to solicite prostitutes, its a crime, its something he can and will be charged with, especially because he is a repeat offender.
I think clear chanel has had enough of the association with his character outside of his job.

I agree w/you also Jasmine. It is truly sad that he couldn’t be true to himself, like most on the d/l. No doubt because of his profession, listeners, family & friends and the scrutiny that follows BUT he had to know that hard evidence & the truth would surface eventually. My prayers go out to him. Hopefully he wont’ take his life but instead admit, deal & accept that he is who he is. I don’t agree with the lifestyle but we live in a different time where it has become acceptable. He’s not the first and won’t be the last.

I agree with you jas a 100%. It’s a shame everyone will simply focus on “prostitution being a crime” as the default reason for him being released. Bc keep it real- if he were soliciting female prostitutes it wouldn’t be a big deal at all. Heck, it wouldn’t even make news.

I think he goes after prostitutes because he may feel it is easier for him to keep it a secret as opposed to getting in a relationship with an openly gay male. He should just come out as being gay. I am pretty sure they wouldn’t have fired him.

    • m&m

HOT 97 is THE MOST misogynistic radio station in the country. Unless he was some sort of buffoon, there is NO way he would have been accepted.

I called it! He came out today and the listeners seem to be feeling it..he will be dj’n at 12 today.

Forced to give up his livelyhood ….. things suicide are made of. Hope he has a suppotive group around praying with him and helping him through this.

    Damn Mister Cee…..

He made the choice to leave the station. The station never fired him. Plenty of people are closeted gays but you cant get fired for being gay. I think he should have stayed and hung in there until all this blows over. Be you and please you never be untrue to yourself or you will be consumed to hiding for the rest of your life. Just accept and say you are gay stop sugar coating and denying certain points. Yes you will loose some so called friends, family, and others but it they truly love you they will be right by your side during all of this. Life goes on. Be strong. Be safe!!!!
