New ‘Star Wars’ Series Starring Amandla Stenberg Is Reportedly Being Review-Bombed By Racist Franchise Fans

It seems some problematic Star Wars fans are once again up to no good.

Reports state that the franchise’s newest installment, starring Black queer actress Amandla Stenberg, is facing review-bombing following its premiere earlier this month, leaving the show with a very poor audience review score.

Amandla Stenberg, 25, made her debut in the Star Wars universe via their new series The Acolyte. The first two episodes of the show were released on Disney + on June 4th and reached a stellar 11.1 million viewers in its first 5 days. It was reportedly the largest debut for the streaming platform this year.

Reports note that the spin-off was also met with much critical acclaim, earning 84% amongst critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score drastically fell to an alarming 14% after allegedly being review-bombed by racist and misogynistic fans.

In case you’re unfamiliar, review bombing is a rising internet practice that sees several individuals attempt to tank a project by relentlessly leaving negative reviews. Other Star Wars actors such as Moses Ingram and John Boyega have also been victims of similar circumstances. As previously covered, the two were very vocal about condemning the racist threats and treatment they received from the franchise’s fanbase during their respective projects. Moses Ingram starred in the Obi-Wan Kenobi installment while John Boyega was cast in the last three blockbuster films.

Despite the review bombers, Amandla Sternberg says she’s proud of the series and is focusing on those who choose to support the project. She stated about the matter:

“There’s also a significant sect of Black creators and Black ‘Star Wars’ fans on TikTok who are being vocal about…the pushback that we’ve received and where it comes from…And those folks make me so deeply happy,”

She continued:

“those are the folks that I’m so grateful to, and I want to send as much recognition and love and gratitude towards them because they keep us grounded.”
