CNN’s Don Lemon Pens Memoir, Comes out the Closet
CNN anchor Don Lemon has penned a new memoir that reveals that he is gay. The book, titled ‘Transparent,’ shared is upbringing, sexuality and other life lessons. He writes, “College wasn’t the only learning experience I undertook during my years in New York. I was also coming to terms with my sexual identity. Since I was knee-high to a duck, I’ve known that I was gay.” Lemon explained (to the New York Times) how difficult sexuality and race is in the African American community. “It’s quite different for an African-American male. It’s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You’re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away. You’re afraid that black women will say the same things they do about how black men should be dating black women.” He added, “I guess this makes me a double minority now.” The book hits the streets on June 16.
