D. Woods Starring Alongside Mo’Nique In New Film, Blackbirds
Previously, we reported on the trouble between D.Woods (real name Wanita Woodgette Wand) her former group members of Danity Kane. In short, the 29-year-old (who landed a coveted spot, hand-picked by Diddy on MTV’s Making the Band reality show) she was not invited to reunite with the group. She explained:
I found out about the Danity Kane reunion the same way everyone else did, on line and on TMZ. I was in rehearsal for a major production in Atlanta and heard they had a lunch in LA and I wasn’t invited.
What’s more? D.Woods suggested that DK was still using her vocals and she had plans to lawyer up.
Those issues may not have been resolved, however Miss Woods is putting her focus on her acting career. She’s landed a new project, an independent film entitled ‘Blackbird‘, where she will co-star alongside Oscar winning actress Mo’Nique and Isaiah Washington.
D. Woods confirmed the news on social media, releasing the photo above with the caption:
Director @patrikianpolk introduces the newest batch of screen gems to round out the cast of his lastest film#BLACKBIRD starring #Mo’Nique & #IsiahWashington@thtguyjulian @garylgray @laamarthemiddle@superjane814 #kevinallesse
Blackbird is set to debut during the Black Film Festival. The film tells the story of Randy Rousseau, a 17-year-old choir boy living with his family in a tight-knit Mississippi town who not only struggles with his “misfit” status in the religiously-conservative community but is consistently plagued by a series of disturbing premonitions. Randy’s world becomes even more complicated when the sudden disappearance of his younger sister results in the breakup of his parents – an event his grief-stricken mother blames him for after discovering a shocking secret he’s been hiding. Blackbird is based off the novel by Larry Duplechan, executive produced by Mo’Nique and her husband Sidney Hicks.
