BET Says Sorry For Blue Ivy Hair Joke: It was stupid. Don’t Blame Karrueche!
It’s been less than 24 hours and both BET and Karrueche Tran are feeling the heat, after making a joke about the daughter of Beyonce and Jay Z. As previously reported, while guest hosting for BET’s 106 & Park, Karrueche read a scripted joke about Blue Ivy’s hair. Some fans expressed their disagreement with the joke. This afternoon, BET’s Stephen G. Hill, issued the following apology on Twitter.

you must be writing her checks for you to say that, if he wants to keep her job she will read it because she knows she didn’t write it.
That may be exactly why she said it. She wants the opportunity to work again and doesn’t want to be labeled as someone whom is hard to work with or can’t do the job they were paid for (i.e.-standing there like a deer in headlights looking puzzled or really embarrassing BET and saying what. . . like this threw me for one until they had to go to the next part because of timing.) She would really book hosting jobs looking like a host who can’t read. The problem is, it may hurt her more than help her. A lot of times you don’t get advance notice of what you are going to say or get told one thing and taken by surprise.
In retrospect ( I hope she knows this now), you have to be a quick thinker to avoid things like this. (i.e. taking off the last part and saying something like I really did wake up like this, because I’m flawless and I look good tonight or something). Things happen, hence the part in the remix to flawless (i.e. of course sometimes ….. go down when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator) If they gave her grief about not reading what it said, then she could let them know, she is willing to work, but felt that was inappropriate.
What I meant was she could’ve used common sense.Just because someone puts something in front of you to read,doesn’t mean you have to read it.Especially if you feel it’s not a nice thing to say.She doesn’t seem to be hurting for money.She’s everywhere and seems to be doing everything,I doubt shes looking for a job.
It was a completely tasteless and unnecessary joke. Especially for a Black network that should be doing more to uplift our sistas (of all ages) instead of tearing them down. The reality is that Blue’s hair looks just like Debra Lee’s hair!
BET has not been black since Donnie Simpson. They give -0 about the impression they put out. Have you noticed that they only show movies like: Set it Off; Juice; Baby Boy and plenty more that do nothing to uplift the African American youth.
Exactly,Mr.Johnson sold BET.They just kept some of the black figure heads.I’ve noticed the movie selections as well.A large Corp.owns BET now,there is not much black about it.I noticed that there was very little coverage daily on what was going on in Ferguson.I don’t watch it like I use to.
