[INTERVIEW] Lisa Wu Explains Departure From Atlanta Housewives: ‘There were certain things that I just would not do.’

anymore, I’m single. So I’m talking about that, I’m talking about experiences and so for me I’m a leader. I must be a control freak because I don’t like being vulnerable. So me being vulnerable I’m a weeping willow, like this is crazy but I mean we’re all human. We all go through things and the fact that we get through them, that’s what’s important.

theJasmineBRAND.com: On the show we see that you are pursuing acting, coming from the reality world initially where we first met you, do you find it challenging in Hollywood?

Lisa Wu: See that’s the misconception and that’s the reason why I even signed up to do this show. People think that I came from reality. I started almost 20 years ago, I wrote a play that Tyler Perry directed 20 years ago. I wrote a movie, produced and starred in a movie back in 2000. I produced another television show that I was a host of. This is my home and because on [Real] Housewives of Atlanta they didn’t allow me to say it on the first season. They wanted real character, I couldn’t say that I was a actress, I couldn’t say that I was a producer. I’m back to doing what I love, so I did it for that purpose. A lot of people didn’t know that but a lot of people in the industry know that.

theJasmineBRAND.com: I love the way that you’re able to set the record straight. Speaking of setting the record straight, can you give some clarity as to why you chose not to or weren’t invited back to Real Housewives?

Lisa Wu: Well you know, it was just a difference of creativity. And you know, my thing is because I write movies, I produce, I don’t feel the need to perform and if you’re telling me what I should be doing and what my story line should be then it sounds scripted to me. If it’s scripted, let me do damn scripted. If it’s reality, let it be reality. For me, I just bowed out because I don’t have to do that. I’m always a person that you never sell out. At the end of the day you have to like who you see in the mirror. You have to have integrity and like who you see. I have to look in the mirror and see myself. So I’m okay with that, there were certain things that I just would not do.

theJasmineBRAND.com: What would you say is one of the biggest misconceptions about you that maybe you want to clear up during this show?

Lisa Wu: Like I said people believe what they want to believe. At the end of the day people thought I was one dimensional. She’s a business woman, she’s boring. I’m super funny, you’ll think I’m a comedian. You could put me on the stage but then there’s a turn up to me. You push the wrong button, you’re going to get that too. There’s a reason why they weren’t grabbing on my hair and my eyes. You’ll find that there’s just different layers. Anybody that is really smart can read into that and think “Wait a minute, they wasn’t bothering her.” There’s layers to me and we all have those layers. You’ll see that I’m human, I cry, I hurt. You know, you push the wrong button, you get a different Lisa. I’m very aggressive in business, everyone knew that. You’ll see all these different layers and you’ll see my children. And that’s different.
