Wendy Williams Admits Toning Down Radio Persona to Land Daytime: I had to be that person so you’ll would pay attention.
so that you’ll would pay attention — so that I could get a talk show. And I didn’t know that I was heading toward a talk show. Umm, and the person that I was, is still the same person that I am. It’s just that I only have one hour to say my piece.
On radio, you have four hours to dig it deep hole for yourself, honey. And then you pull those listeners up and they fanning the fire. What! But I have no regrets.
She adds that age also had something to do with how outspoken she was:
And also you have to remember, when most people met me through the radio I was a 22-year-old girl. You know? Now I’m a 50-year-old wife, mother, woman, you know community member and whatnot and no our show is not a heavy-duty Kumbaya show, you know cuz I’m not a heavy Kumbaya girl. Our show is light and fun and if you squint, there might be something that you learn.
Watch Wendy’s full interview for her thoughts on how the new Aaliyah biopic (which she executive produced) will be received; why she was so uncomfortable at the Soul Train Awards; and what fans can expect if they check her out doing stand up.
