(EXCLUSIVE) Lil Wayne Blows Off Lawsuit Over “Carter IV” Royalties, Producer Demands 100k Judgement
The deal they both signed stated Cash Money was to provide accounting for all royalties on the song to REO & The Soundkillers — REO was to be paid producer royalties on the money made from the “Carter IV.”
The agreement reported stated if the album sold over a $1 million copies, REO would be paid 4% royalties for the net sales of the album released by Lil Wayne.
Lil Wayne’s album sold over 2 million copies and the suit explained the music company believes he made millions from the sales. They claimed they only received one royalty statement in December 2012 which showed they were owed $91,841.50 from the sales, but following that they never received the check or any further statements of sales from Cash Money. They filed suit demanding the accounting records for the sales plus the royalties they were due.
Then on January 15th, the music company filed docs in the case explaining the Lil Wayne and his crew had blown off the legal battle for months — despite being served with the legal documents back in October.
The Soundkillers say that the court already issued them a default and now they are demanding that the judge not wait around any longer for Wayne to respond.
They state Cash Money has retained money that is owed to them and want them to be served with a default judgement in the amount of $91,841.50. The company is also asking the court to order Lil Wayne’s label to hand over the accounting statements immediately. See the exclusive court docs.
