(EXCLUSIVE) Tyga’s Ex-Business Partner Blasts Rapper, Says NOBODY Buys His Clothes Due to His Name!
Tyga blasted his ex-business partner in court documents, claiming that he gave Marrero a percentage of the company. Further, the man never was promised any money for creating the designs for Last Kings.
The rapper said that Marrero stepped down from the line in 2012 and thus gave up all commission from the sales of the line.
The lawsuit is headed to trial in April where the case will be heard by a jury, who will decide if Tyga owes his ex-business partner a percentage of Last Kings profits.
Then earlier this month, Marrero filed docs attempting to explain that the profits made by Last Kings aren’t due to Tyga’s “celebrity” but rather just consumers liking the logo that he created.
Marrero hired an expert to conduct research with consumers to see if they even knew Tyga or if his endorsement of a brand would cause them to purchase clothes from the line.
The expert explains in court documents that Tyga has no pull and consumers aren’t purchasing items from his clothing line due to his connection. The expert explains in court docs that Tyga is not Egyptian or of royal heritage and says his line is confusing and convoluted and no way relates to his own image to the public.
Further, the man says that Tyga’s legal issues including claims he stole jewelry from a Beverly Hills store along with another legal battle over his explicit music video “Make it Nasty” … do not promote people to buy any products he endorses such as Last Kings. He says while these issues may raise his street cred, they aren’t selling his clothes — especially since Tyga’s store is located on Melrose Blvd in a fancy area of Los Angeles.
According to his study, only a small percentage – of the people he interviewed to test their knowledge of Tyga and his clothing line — knew it was the rappers brand and an even smaller amount said the reason they would purchase the clothes due to Tyga being behind the brand.
Marrero plans to show this evidence in court to the jury, to show that the success of the brand isn’t due to Tyga but rather because of his designs and therefore he is owed a good chunk of the profits made from Last Kings. See the exclusive court docs.
