(EXCLUSIVE) Music Producer Jas Prince LOSES $4 Million Legal Battle w/ Cash Money Over Drake Royalties
Then on October 10th (of 2014), Lil Wayne’s record label fired back at Jas Prince’s legal battle. Cash Money claimed that the original deal they made when they signed Drake stated that they were to pay Aspire Music Group the percentages of the rappers profits NOT Jas Prince or his music company.
Further, they explained they do not owe Jas Prince because they never entered into a contract with him over Drake’s earnings. They stated that Jas Prince and Aspire were already involved in a separate legal battle over the deal and Cash Money says this lawsuit is only another attempt by Jas to collect on the money he believes he is owed.
Cash Money Records explained they pay the royalties to Aspire and per their deal they follow how they want the money paid out specifically and they refuse to breach their contract with Aspire to accommodate Jas Prince. They demanded the lawsuit be dismissed.
Then on May 8th, the federal court judge came back with his decision. The order states that Jas Prince has no case against Cash Money and will be awarded NOTHING from his complaint.
The judge agreed with Cash Money — that the deal that was signed did NOT include Jas or his music company, but rather the separate company Aspire. He notes that the contract signed dealing with Drake’s royalties specifically states that Cash Money is to pay Aspire not Jas and therefore he granted Cash Money’s motion to throw out the case.
