(EXCLUSIVE) Kandi Burruss Sued By Ex Employee For Refusing To Pay Minimum Wage Or Overtime: She owes me money!
Kandi Burruss Sued By Ex Employee
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss is accused of screwing over her employee by refusing to pay him minimum wage or overtime — despite him loyally working for the reality star for years and even putting together her wedding. Now, he has sued her demanding the court order her to pay him the money he is owed.
A man named Johnnie Winston III filed suit against Kandi Burruss-Tucker and her company Kandi Koated Entertainment.
He explains that he began working as the reality star’s manager, event planner and production coordinator in 2013 until his termination in February 2016.
Winston accuses Kandi of failing to pay the required state minimum wage and overtime wages for time spent working in the recording studio, planning special events, running errands and preparing meals for special events and attending meetings.
His job included performing handyman duties at her studio, the Kandi Factory. He ran personal errands for her and helped assist her with a play entitled ‘A Mother’s Love.‘ He was required to work 7 days a week and 10-12 hours a day.
From early 2014 until he was fired, his responsibilities increased and he was periodically required to assist with planning events like Kandi’s wedding to Todd Tucker and her Bedroom Kandi Convention, and even her Business Woman’s Masterclass.
He says he was terminated in April 2015, but rehired in May 2015. However, throughout his employment he accuses Kandi of failing to pay overtime pay or the required minimum wage.
Winston filed suit for a declaratory judgement stating Kandi violated The Fair Labor Standards Act, the entire pay and overtime he is owed, along with liquidated damages in an additional amount equal to back pay and benefits along with his attorney fees and interest.
