L.A. Reid Signs Big Boi of Outkast To New Company
L.A. Reid is officially open for business. The music exec’s first signing since leaving Epic Records is Big Boi of Outkast, according to reports. Reid’s new company HitCo has secured distribution through EMPIRE, an independent company. Sources says Reid and business partner Charles Goldstuck have raised over $100 million to launch HitCo.
Big Boi is best known for being a member of Outkast alongside André 3000. His work in the duo has produced six studio albums. Big Boi’s solo debut Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was released in July 2010 to respectable sales and critical acclaim. He released his second studio album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors in 2012. Boomiverse, his third studio album, was released in June 2017.
Prior to launching HitCo, Reid founded LaFace Records, a joint venture with Arista Records, which later folded into Sony Music. In 2017, he left Sony, amidst sexual misconduct allegations.
